Recombinases

Site-specific recombinases catalyze DNA strand exchange between defined recognition sequences, enabling reversible genetic rearrangements without requiring sequence homology. Different recombinase families recognize distinct target sites: Cre acts on loxP sequences while Flp recognizes FRT sites, allowing orthogonal control in complex genetic systems.
