Calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II alpha (CaMKIIα) promoter
Neuron-biased promoter from the CaMKIIα gene with preferential activity in excitatory forebrain neurons, including cortex and hippocampus. Provides moderate to strong neuronal expression, though low-level activity in some inhibitory neurons has been reported.
Characteristics
Drives expression in forebrain excitatory (glutamatergic) neurons; used in AAV vectors targeting cortex and hippocampus. Minimal activity in inhibitory neurons and glia.
