A variant of yellow fluorescent protein with fast and efficient maturation for cell-biological applications

Nagai et al. (2002). Nat Biotechnol DOI: 10.1038/nbt0102-87 Citations: 3500

Key findings

Introduced Venus (F46L + other mutations on YFP/EYFP background), solving the slow and temperature-sensitive maturation of earlier YFP variants. Venus matures efficiently at 37°C and is significantly brighter than EYFP. Replaced EYFP for most mammalian expression applications. Key paper for yellow-spectrum FP selection.
