Primary structure of the Aequorea victoria green-fluorescent protein

First cloning and sequencing of the GFP gene from Aequorea victoria jellyfish. Provided the cDNA sequence that enabled all subsequent heterologous expression of GFP. The gene was cloned but fluorescence in other organisms was not yet demonstrated.
